Good Salon Guide
Many of us have a love-hate relationship with salon visits. When you get there, you’re treated to relaxing head massages, and for many your hairstylist also doubles up as a confidant who dishes the best hair tips and tricks.
However, not all of us have the time and money to visit salons regularly to touch up our hair colour. For girls with really long hair, be prepared to plant your butt in that chair for a good couple of hours each time!
There’s also the cost to factor in; when you’re a student or just starting out in the professional world, can you really justify dropping $200 on your hair every 6-8 weeks?
Imagine our delight when we heard about this new lived-in hair colour trend that is purported to last for 6 months!
What Color Should You Dye Your Hair?
Okay, it’s not exactly new. This lived-in hair trend is not quite balayage nor ombre, although it does bear some resemblance. Some people online passionately insist that this is just another form of ombre and balayage.
To us, it looks like a more relaxed and natural, yet polished cousin of the two older trend.
The “lived-in hair” was actually pioneered by Johnny Ramirez. He firmly states that lived-in hair is not balayage nor ombre.
What’s Next After Ombré: The Hair Color That Lasts 6 Months
If the pioneer says so, we should listen to him.
Ramirez was first inspired by the hair colour of his daughter: somewhere between brown and blonde. (bronde?) His signature style, the “lived-in hair”, is achieved by placing subtle highlights throughout your hair, lifting colour, applying colour directly onto each strand and blurring the colours so that the gradients come out naturally.
He even creates a “fake root” so that any new growth will blend in naturally. It’s practically a work of art!
While most of the photos on his Instagram feed (that’s where he posts his fruits of labour!) are blondes, this technique works for brunettes too.
Being a meticulous person, Johnny Ramirez often takes 6 hours to make over each client’s hair, but the results are worth it.
Think about it: that’s 6 months that you don’t have to visit your salon!
Sadly, Johnny Ramirez only operates in the US for now, but let’s not give up hope. Perhaps you can bring along your favourite pictures from his Instagram account and show it to your hairstylist?
